Denis enjoys transforming the hard and cold properties of stone and bronze to expose a sense of warmth and calm.
The quality, properties and shape of each uncarved block are important to his approach. Working in a primary stylized format, he feels he can stay true to the original block and best reveal his vision. The repetition of strong lines and surface planes enhance the beauty of the stone which brings the piece to life.
The modeling technique in the bronze process allows more freedom in conception of a subject while still maintaining the stylized format of the stone pieces. He places a lot of importance on the patinas, which he feels further enhance the transformation of the stone-like quality of his bronze works.
Stone and bronze create both a physical and mental challenge. He finds peace in the process and looks forward to their challenges every day.
Denis has been sculpting professionally for over 30 years. He has been a member of the Sculptor's Society of Canada for over 20 years. He has completed several Public Commissions for cities within BC and Alberta. Other works of his can be found in private collections across Canada the US and many other countries.
